WOO-HOO!From the Guthrie Center Times this week:
"A fund raising effort for a new/remodeled aquatic center in Stuart got a boost this week with the announcement the community would receive a $300,000 rural development grant.
Senator Tom Harkin (D-IA), Chairman of the Senate Agriculture, Nutrition, and Forestry Committee, announced funding from the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) for seven communities in Iowa.
Central Iowa Power Cooperative (CIPCO) was awarded a grant of $300,000 to aid the City of Stuart in financing a new Aquatic Center.
Also, Farmers Electric Cooperative, Inc. of Greenfield was awarded a grant of $300,000 to assist the Adair Country Memorial Hospital in financing an addition. The project will create three new full-time jobs and retain 117."

sweet, now watch them try and piss it away on the walking/bike trail.
AWESOME, GREAT NEWS!!
Why was this not updated at the last council meeting from the city administrator?
Will they start bldg at the end of this summer?
I need to know where them aquatic center will be.
negativity is not good. everything on here is negative. try to be upbeat.
aquatic center or updates to the current pool?
If the grant is for an aquatic center where will it be built and what happens to the outdated pool?
Or, is the grant for improvements to the current pool? Has anyone talked to Kerri or Jenyse?
There needs to be careful consideration as to the location of the aquatic center. Think ahead. What about parking? Do we really want it in that small spot? This needs to have some careful thought before "diving" in.
Dear 12:14: Nice play on words...:)
It's my understanding that this was a loan for 300k not a grant. Anyone care to correct me?
Need to also keep in mind that the majority of citizens are walking or riding bikes to the pool. Make sure the local is a safe area with good streets, lighting and sidewalks.
Thought you'd like that!
Not a grant? need input.
Not the right location? That's a fact. Think it through.
The 300k is NOT a grant but a loan.
Also, about the location and parking...I'm amazed at how many people know so little about this project! All the information has been out there folks for close to a year now.
Still, close to $500,000 is way to much to pay for a bathhouse!
